So our Soul has developed a leak at the oil drain plug. A replacement pan is like $30 so I figure I’ll just replace that, but no one but autozone seems to have a gasket for it. Do I not need a gasket? Should I be using rtv?

If no one sells it then it's probably form in place gasket, aka rtv. But make sure to get the correct sealant, not generic rtv. I know Toyota uses a specific gasket maker for their oil pans.

eh, it’s ok. But just encase your engine in this. should stop the leaks!

It looks like I need TB1217H or Loctite 5900 H. Either one will cost about as much as the pan! :-\

How many miles on the car? Are you still under warranty? It shouldn’ t cost you anything.

eeek 147k in 5 years!

But yeah, it seems there is no real gasket for your oil pan. Just use the liquid stuff.

Yikes. But you want to get the right sealant, otherwise you can mess up your oil passages, and it might not seal right.

If the oil pan itself is fine then don't replace it and just redo the gasket.

Thread  in a larger diameter Fumoto and leave the pan where it’s at.

Oh I read that as “pan.” As in the oil drain pan is leaking.

Well, on the bright side, most oil pans aren't usually less than $100.
